Leprosy has affected humanity for thousands of years. Millions of people around the globe still suffer from this disease. ILEP works through its members in 63 countries on leprosy research. Together they are stopping leprosy and preventing disability due to leprosy. If you want to fight against this disease and the stigma it causes, which causes the people affected and their families to be shunned and excluded from everyday life and have their rights ignored, then ILEP is looking for you.

Full Job Description:

The Global Policy Advisor will provide advisory support and expertise for ILEP’s global policy process and collaborate on an assigned area of process and policy. Ultimately, you will contribute directly to developing policy that furthers ILEP’s external goals of:

  • Stopping transmission;
  • Ending disability through leprosy;
  • Breaking barriers to the inclusion of women, children and men affected by leprosy.

You will have experience:* Implementing health programmes in developing countries at a senior level (Programme/

Technical /Country Director or above) Working with government Ministries in developing countries Facilitation of meetings * Academic publications in the field of health

  • Setting up and running joint programmes with a range of organisations
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships
  • Negotiation with technical health experts You will hold a post graduate degree, a MA in global health/development/international public health is essential. You’ll know how to work across cultures, and to gain and maintain the respect and confidence of practitioners. In addition, you will have: * Exceptional facilitation and listening skills
  • Highly developed writing and editing skills in English
  • Servant leadership style, good delegator
  • Diplomacy
  • Strategic thinker

Experience in academic publications, working in leprosy or another NTD, health qualification and knowledge of the French language are desirable.

About ILEP

ILEP was founded in 1966 as a Federation of 14 international non-governmental organisations. Members co-ordinate their work in 63 countries, where they spend some $60 million on 700 projects and around $US 2.5 million per year on leprosy research. Together they are stopping leprosy and preventing disability due to leprosy. ILEP is fighting the stigma of leprosy, which can cause people affected and their families to be shunned and excluded from everyday life, their rights ignored.
